HEART OF COUNTRY art piece
The artpiece was co-designed and collaborated with the Katanning Yarning Group and Illumina Design
Meaning:
Step into the heart of community and connection with Illumina Design’s Yarning Circle in collaboration with rural communities. More than just a physical space, the Yarning Circle is a symbolic gathering point where stories intertwine, and relationships are woven into the fabric of shared experiences. Inspired by Indigenous traditions, our Yarning Circle embraces inclusivity, fostering dialogue, understanding, and unity. Through thoughtful design, we created a welcoming space that encourages the art of yarning—sharing stories, wisdom, and fostering a sense of belonging.
This piece shows Katanning, Badgebup, Kent-Nyabing, Gnowangerup, Tambelup-Broombill, Kojonup and Woodanilling.
Katanning the Noongar word KARTANNIN means “Big Meeting Place”. The artpiece holds true to this meaning. This map also shows how the surrounding districts shown by the white paths leading to Heart of Country are tightly intertwined and show the importance of these communities supporting each other.
